Barack, You Socialist

Barack, I always suspected that you had nefarious intentions, and now we all know for sure, thanks to the delightfully informed John McCain. After all, he's a smart guy.  He says you're more extreme than Bernie Sanders.  And we all know that ole Bernie is a pinko-commie-Jane Fonda-loving-gay rights supporting-believer in the Constitution. Poor Bernie, he just doesn't know how insane it is to supports rights for people.

I Made a Mistake, and Now I'll Convert A Republican

I recently made an embarrassing mistake which really gave me something to think about.  I was out to lunch with a few colleagues, when one person told me he wanted to talk some politics with me.  This person and I spoke frequently about politics, and we were both Hillary supporters.  A third person chimed in asked me if I was a Republican, and I was a little taken aback by that.  The idea makes my skin crawl.  Of course, I said "Not in this lifetime!". He then told me that he was, and I should consider voting for John McCain.  That one stopped me in my tracks, because he's black.

Let's Move On

Michigan. Florida.  I'm exhausted from hearing about them. Our primary system stinks, and I think most of us recognize that fact. Florida and Michigan both moved their primary dates in violation of DNC rules.  But they weren't alone, except in their punishment. We need to take a serious look at how we nominate our candidate for the next cycle, although I doubt it will happen.

Unity? What Unity? UPDATED

I'm a Hillary supporter.  I have been since I first hear her speak in 1992, and I will continue to be a supporter.  She'll have my money and my vote whenever she needs it.  And Hillary has made it clear that if Obama wins the nomination, she'll be out there supporting him, and so will I.

In that spirit, I made a trip over to Daily Kos this morning, wondering if the tide of unity was at least lapping the shores there yet.  It isn't.

NY Times: Elizabeth Wants John to Endorse Hillary

In what I find to be a truly startling development, Elizabeth Edwards has been quietly trying to convince her husband, John Edwards, to endorse Hillary Clinton. Elizabeth Edwards has long been a political activist and has spoken publicly about her preference for Hillary's health care plan over Obama's, but I always assumed it stopped there.   Apparently , I was wrong.

Superdelegate Jack Murtha Endorses Hillary

On a day that was supposed have Barack Obama front and center, we get news that Pennsylvania Rep. and superdelegate Jack Murtha has endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.

Murtha, who represents the 12th district of Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, was an early and sometimes inflammatory critic of the Iraq war. As a retired Marine Corps colonel and the first combat veteran of Vietnam elected to serve in Congress, Murtha's voice on Clinton's behalf could prove especially valuable in both inoculating her from anti-war criticism and bolstering her claim that she is the most qualified to serve as commander-in-chief. That message is the backbone of Clinton's appearances this week.

So Long, Tucker Carlson

Yes, Tucker Carlson, he of the bow tie, low ratings and odious personality, has finally gotten the ax from MSNBC, and it's long past due.  The lovely and talented Carlson is being replaced with a show featuring David Gregory, called Race for the White House. There's no real word yet on the format of Gregory's show, but that title sounds suspiciously temporary.

Unfortunately, MSNBC cancelled Tucker's show and not Tucker himself.  He'll be hanging around spewing his noisome thoughts as a contributor.

Will Obama Put His Money Where His Mouth Is? - Clinton Will

In a very interesting segment on Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room this afternoon, Clinton supporter James Carville pledged to raise $15 million to pay for the costs of new primaries in Michigan and Florida, and challenged Obama surrogate David Wilhelm to do the same:

You know, we're telling people all over the world to have
elections. And the United States of America is saying, well, we can't
afford to have an election in Florida and Michigan in the most exciting,
highly contested and important presidential election probably in the
history of this country.
We look ridiculous. I mean, let's just get together and have the
DNC put some money up. Have Senator Obama put some money up, Senator
Clinton's people put some money up and let's go out and raise the
money. We can do this easy, pass some paper ballots and count them.
